Visit Us on the Web – Click Here Our “Getting to Know Our Wines” series continues today with another very famous blend. Remember, this week’s featured wine is available at our winery in Greenwood Village, today ONLY, for a 10% discount. Today’s Featured Wine is: Selection - Luna Rossa The Luna Rossa is a Super Tuscan. The wine is vinted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese. Generically speaking, a Super Tuscan is any Tuscan red wine that does not adhere to traditional blending laws for the region. Super Tuscans often contain other grapes, especially cabernet sauvignon. The very first Super Tuscan was produced in 1968 by Azienda Agricola San Felice. Other winemakers started experimenting with Super Tuscan blends of their own shortly thereafter. Because these Sper Tuscan Italian wines did not conform with the strict rules and classifications, they were initially classified as "table wine," a term usually used to describe lower quality wines. Since the initial pioneering work by many Italian winemakers and vineyards, there has been a rapid expansion in production of high-quality Super Tuscan wines throughout Italy. Super Tuscans have become quite famous and because of their high quality are now quite expensive. Luna Rossa is a bold, robust and intense wine. It has a dark, inviting color and rich, bold oak-enhanced aromas, an abundance of mouth-filling, chewy berry flavors. This wine is very complex, with rich layers of fruit and solid supporting tannins, capped by a long oak finish. The Luna Rossa goes nicely with steak, ribs, sausage and spicy pasta dishes.
