Best Denver Wine ShopOn March 4, 2016, 350 guests and 40 celebrity sports waiters came together to grant the wishes of Colorado children facing life-threatening medical conditions at Make-A-Wish Colorado’s Sporting Affair Celebrity Waiter Dinner.  As part of the evening, Wish Kid Brian's wish to meet and spend the day with the Colorado Avalanche was granted. It was a special evening for Brian and inspiring for all the event attendees to see an actual Wish being granted to a child. It's amazing to think that Make-A-Wish does this every single day, not just once or twice a day.  Somewhere in the United States, volunteers grant a wish every 38 minutes! That sounds amazing, but we're not ready to applaud ourselves just yet.  As special as the evening was, granting Brian's wish, if Make-A-Wish is to grant the wish of every eligible child like Brian, they need to grant a wish every 19 minutes. That's where events like the Sporting Affair come in and why 30 guests of the winery were so excited to support such a wonderful event and worthy cause.  Make-A-Wish Colorado needs companies like the winery and people like our 30 winery guests and all of you to reach that goal of granting a wish every 19 minutes – to bring a life-changing experience to all the kids who need to look forward with optimism rather than fear.  We are told that wishes break the cycle of medical treatments and stress, not only on the wish child, but the entire family.  Wishes are a game-changer in in a Wish kid's struggles to live with, or even overcome, challenging and life threatening medical conditions. The Sporting Affair was a game-changer too as the event raised many of the much needed funds for Make-A-Wish Colorado to continue its mission of sharing the power of a wish! InVINtions, A Creative Winery was, once again, excited to sponsor the 11th annual event by donating all of the wine for the evening and having three tables of owners and co-workers at the event to support the evening of granting wishes. “This is one of my favorite events to be part of every year, and I'm lucky to work at a place that supports such worthy causes and allows its employees to be part of an inspiring evening like the Sporting Affair,” said Assistant Winemaker John Dreiling.  “My wife and I always have a great time and we especially enjoy meeting local sports heroes, including Denver Broncos' and Colorado Mammoth Alumni who sat at the winery tables.” “I loved the opportunity to be a celebrity waiter,” said former Denver Broncos (now Atlanta Falcon's) Guard, Ben Garland. “Not only did I get the chance to meet a variety of pro athletes and Olympians, but I got to meet some of the children who've had wishes granted, including the two boys whose wishes were granted at the event.  Seeing how much these wishes meant to the children really showed me how important this program is.” The celebrity waiters were  given the challenge of auctioning off a commemorative apron signed by all the celebrities in attendance for the evening.  It was a tight race, and it looks like there were two winners of the celebrity challenge: Professional trick cycler, Zach Lewis and Denver Broncos' Alumni, Mark Schlereth.  InVINtions, A Creative Winery is excited to host the winners of the challenge and some of their friends at the winery as a “thank you” for bringing in the additional funds from the auction of the aprons. “Wishes are important because they give a child a chance to forget about everything else going on in their lives,” said Dan Coates, Colorado Mammoth Captain. “A wish will put a smile on their face and keep them thinking positively. I think what makes these wishes so special is what might seem so small or insignificant to someone else can mean the world to one child and I think granting these wishes is what it is all about."
