Tired of Resolutions? Drink Wine Instead!

If you want to live your best life, the answer might be right there in your wine cabinet.

Fact: Every year, millions of people around the world make resolutions to eat healthier and get fit. Most of them fail.

We’re not here to lecture you on sticking to your guns or setting better goals, but we are going to offer a solution: forget about resolutions. Drink wine instead!

If you want to live your best life, the answer might be right there in your wine cabinet. So, sit back, grab a glass, and let us tell you all about the amazing health benefits of your favorite beverage:

Antioxidant Power

You know that fruits and veggies are chock full of powerful disease-fighting antioxidants. But did you know that wine is, too? Red wine is rich in resveratrol and proanthocyanidins, and research has shown that those who drink it have a lower risk of heart disease and high cholesterol.

Improved Memory

Recent research has shown that drinking 1-3 daily glasses of red wine was linked to a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Scientists found that when the wine passes through the gut, it leaves behind antioxidant compounds that can protect brain neurons from getting damaged.

In addition, another study found that resveratrol may help improve short-term memory. Those who participated in the study showed increased retention of words and overall faster performance in the part of the brain associated with the formation of new memories. (We know it doesn't feel that way after a couple glasses of Cab but…Science!)

Stronger Heart and Bones

File under: Best News Ever. Scientists at the University of Alberta in Canada found that resveratrol improves heart, brain and bone function – the same way a workout does. We don’t know about you, but if it’s between hitting the treadmill or relaxing with a drink, we’d rather do the latter.

Better Gut Health

Gut health has been all the rage in recent years, but what can you do if you hate kimchi and can’t stand kombucha? Well, start filling up the wine cellar. Wine is a naturally fermented product, just like pickles or yogurt, and it offers the same bacteria-balancing benefits.

A Longer Life

Last, but certainly not least, wine can help you live longer. On the island of Ikaria, in a recently discovered Blue Zone, people live longer than anyone else in the world. On their daily menu? Wine! (And also fruits, vegetables, and whole grains . . . don’t want to discount those.)

Bottom Line?

We’re not trying to say that you should ignore your health and just drink wine instead. But wine is definitely something that can be a part of your healthy lifestyle – and may even enhance it!
